Meet Hazzan Eva

Hazzan Eva Robbins
Hazzan Eva has dedicated her heart and soul to the expression of Jewish music; a deep longing that goes back to her childhood. Her fondest moments were sitting in the pews of her synagogue, listening to her Hazzan chant. With the encouragement of her partner, Rabbi Steve, she actively pursued a Cantorial career mentoring with some of the finest Hazzanim in Los Angeles, then, graduating from the Academy for Jewish Religion/California with a Master’s Degree in Sacred Music. She is also a member of the Cantors Assembly. She passionately lifts the souls of those around her, whether in prayer, life cycle or in the classroom. “At the very depth of each and every soul lies a need to reach and touch the Holy One, to embrace the luminous moment that transcends time and space and fills us with joy, hope and complete harmony. Music is the vehicle that can take us to such a place.”

Her love for the ancient, traditional sounds, the ‘nusach’ of our prayer service, can be felt when she leads us in prayer. Her eclectic style incorporates the sounds of contemporary composers as well and she skillfully fuses both the old with the new, constantly uplifting our community. ‘Simchat HaNefesh’, her newest creation, is a Shabbat morning service, which reflects this fusion supported by an ensemble of talented musicians. This unique experience includes moments of contemplation, meditation and a deeper understanding of the liturgy through her beautiful kavanot. This once a month inspirational service is a must for those looking to touch the deep, hidden space within.

Eva is also the Director of Admissions and Recruitment Academy for Jewish Religion/California as well as teaching nusach to Rabbinical students. She and Rabbi Steve are the parents of three wonderful children. Our ‘Oasis’ is fortunate to have such a talented, skilled and nurturing Cantor.
